Whisky 2015 – 163-164

Sorry all have been a bit ill.

163 – Springbank 2001 Rundlets & Kilderkins
Honey, plastic, caramels, grapes, vanilla cream, watermelon. Honey, cream, the bitterness of rocket, slightly ashy and medicinal, cherries.

164 – Cadenhead Glenrothes-Glenlivet 24
Sulphur, gas, maple syrup, wood, chicos, brown tea and hay. Salt, wood, rubber, maple, dried strawberries or maybe strawberry jam, brown sugar, rum, brandy butter, caramel, chocolate and LPG. So damn complex.

Whisky 2015 – 108-111

108 – New World Double Cask Release #1 (port refill port first fill)
Brown bread, butter, malt, vanilla. Vanilla, pepper, malt. Best New World in ages. The huge banana bread thing is gone. More elegant and interesting. Great length due to the subdued sweetness.

109 – SMWS 119.14 (Yamazaki) Raspberry Imperial Stout
Freeze dried raspberries, vino cotto, chocolate, fake cherry flavoring, something green I can’t quite place, some woody notes, egg whites. Raspberries, maraschino cherries, cloves, slight cream, umami, cinnamon.

110 – Silver Seal Glendronach 22 years (Distilled 1990)
Musk sticks, flowers, golden syrup, molasses, honey, vanilla, yoghurt, stewed apricots, chocolate chips, rocky road. Woody, sarsaparilla, creaming soda, butter.

111 – Cadenhead Glendronach 23 year (Distilled 1990)
Coconut lemon cake, almond meal, eggy cake mix, bran. Grain, eggplant, almonds, weak honey and lemon. A bit disappointing next to the Silver Seal.

Whisky 2015 – 26-28

26 – Cadenhead Strathclyde 25
Rye and digestive biscuits, dried apple, candle wax, butter, exploded caps and some rubber. Dried pineapple, pepper, cloves and loads of creamy goodness to finish.

27 – Cadenhead Glenburgie-Glenlivet 29
Maraschino cherries, stewed fruits, dark chocolate and wood – brilliant stuff. Warm earthy palate; mushroomy, bitter herbs and green almonds… Oh and slight rock melon at the end.

28 – Smith’s Angaston Whisky 2000 Vintage
What an interesting drop. Smells like a cheap cinnamon candle with a slight brandy note with some candy sweetness and maybe proper cola. The palate is like German spice Christmas cookies, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves… Hot spice almost like Red Hots or Big Red gum. Salt and pepper lingers. As an Adelaide boy, I’m well impressed.

Whisky 2014 – 134-137

134 – Cadenhead Small Batch Glengarioch 24
Chocolate, vanilla ice cream, some formic acid, orange zest and nutmeg. Smoke comes and goes, powdered ginger, chocolate.

135 – Yamazaki Bourbon Barrel
Yeasty, cedar, bananas and vanilla cream and cucumber. Dulche de leche! Ginger, meringue and vanilla.

136 – Ichiro’s Malt Chichibu – on the way
Vanilla and toasted grain, yeasty, banana. Great stuff.

137 – SMWS Never Ending Cask at Whisky & Alement
Bacon bits, green herbs, smoke, seaweed. Syrupy, honey and tea then smoke and peanuts. I reckon Caol Ila because of the peanuts.

Whisky 2014 – 130-132

130 – Cadenhead Small Batch Auchroisk 24 Years

Brown sugar and butter, with wattle seed and cola. Buttery palate with a hint of rubber.

131 – Yamazaki 1998 Rare Sherry Cask

Banoffee pie, cola, peanut butter and Pedro Ximenez. This thing is delicious, expensive, but delicious.

132 – Balvenie Tun 1509 Batch 1

Spicy banana bread, yeasty, nutmeg and a slight green medicinal tone. I found tropical fruit, almost like the tropical cordial I remember as a kid and some orange peel on the palate.
