Whisky 2016 – 121-123 The Mash Tun, Tokyo

121 – Salon de Shimaji Pen x Shinanoya Hanyu 2000 14 years Mizunara heads
Chocolate box, Terry’s chocolate orange, lemon balm, balsa wood, lemonade. Spice busicuits, short bread, doughnuts, honey, marshmallow, salt.

122 – Mars 618 20 Years 1989(?) Single Cask
Egg whites, whipped cream, milk chocolate, strawberries, green peppercorns. Dry to begin then crushed ants, huge vanilla, tannic salty mouth with a finish that just keeps going, cloves and sarsaparilla.

123 – Suntory Hakushu 1988 Bourbon Cask 8J40514
Plastic, chocolate, flinty, strawberry jam and whipped cream on scones, kiwifruit and pineapple. Pina colada, medicinal, coal, tropical cordial, salt, chocolates by a campfire, leather and bracken. A beast of a whisky!

Whisky 2015 – 169-170

169 – Suntory Royal (Maybe an 80s bottling)
Toffee, malt, slight vanilla, pineapple cake, chestnuts, stewed apricots and tobacco. Caramel, earl grey tea, mango and tropical fruits.

170 – Palace Bar 14 Year
Hay, green vines, passionfruit, coffee, green bananas, gasoline. Bananas, mangos, slight bitter notes, grilled nectarines, white peach, sour cream and crepes.

Whisky 2015 – 100-103

100 – Adelphi Mortlach 27 Years
Dried orange peel, fruit cake, strawberries, Jerusalem artichokes, chestnut flour. Toffee, green dried herbs, salty, pepper, lollies, cream, vanilla, candle wick, so much in it.

101 – Limerick Selection Slaney Malt 23 Years
Hand cream, vanilla pods, hazel nuts, waxy, some tropical fruit – fruit emphasized and more friendly with water. Gassy, hollow, nut butter, salt, more sulfurous with water.

102 – Suntory Chita Grain
Maple syrup, tropical fruits and crushed ants. Vanilla, brown sugar and mango. So simple and elegant.

103 – Millstone Sherry Cask 12 Years
This Dutch whisky is mental. Huge maple syrup, rubber and spice on the nose. Crepes dripping with maple syrup, salted butter and plump raisins. Love it and so reasonably priced.
